To open the amateur radio section of this forum, let me pass along a tip to any young amateur radio enthusiasts: become a life member of ARRL and/or RAC. I did this 34 years ago and it was not only a good investment (my QSTs became effectively free after about 20 years of membership), but it supports the most important groups that will keep your hobby going and growing.

It might help if you could actually let people know what the acronyms stand for and explain more fully what the Q, whatever is.

Nothin wrong with acronyms but the first time you use them in a post they should then be typed out fully so people can learn and understand what they are, IMHO (in My Honest Opinion).

ARRL is the American Radio Relay League. RAC is Radio Amateurs of Canada. Each is the national association of their respective countries that represent amateur radio operators. QST is not an acronym. It is a Q signal that means a general call to all amateur radio operators. In this case, it is the name of the membership magazine published by ARRL.

Don't think RAC offers a lifetime membership anymore. Not sure about the ARRL.
In any case Hams should support their national organization and at least take out a yearly membership.

There is no Life Membership available from Radio Amateurs of Canada now. Current cost for Life Membership for Canadians from American Radio Relay League is US$1225.

Had a discussion with the midwest director a while back about the lifetime memberships for RAC. I don't know why they dropped it but it's too bad they did.

On another note maybe I'll catch you on the trans-Canada net later today?

Sundays on 14.140MHz usb 1800Z (-[your time zone offset for local time]) for those who might like to check/listen in.
