It's a really difficult decision to be honest with you but as far as I'm concerned LCD seems like the way to go. LED also is pretty good but plasma is just something that I feel is a little bit outdated. Plasma was something that I found interesting when I was searching for TVs back in the early 2000 but now I think it's a little bit outdated.

LCD is actually older technology than plasma. It has just gained more popularity than plasma over the years. LCD is brighter than plasma. There are 2 main types of LCD, LED LCD and CCFL LCD. LED LCD is the brightest. LCD has better resolution than Plasma.

Plasma has a better Black level and Contrast Level. Plasma handles motion blur better. Plasma has less issues than LCD with viewing angles and a higher refresh right.

Anyhow I could go on forever on this. Basically just read some reviews and do some research both are good technologies depending on your needs.

I should also add that LCD TVs come in a wider range of sizes than Plasma TVs do. I think Plasma sets top out around 65 inches and start at about 42.

The reason why plasma tv had fallen out of favor to the consumers is because it consumes a lot of power than lcd tv, despite having better features than the latter. Besides, the technology of lcd tv is continually and rapidly advancing.

Power differences do exist. Claiming that this is the reason for LCD being popular is over simplifying the issue though. Power can get in line behind a long list of differences to include price.

Plasma has the truest colors and blackest blacks, they can also be seen with full picture quality at any off center angle. With new Plasma no longer being manufactured, an OLED would be my next choice for the best HDTV.  Back or edge-lit LCD's or LED's while good looking at them straight on, lose image quality off center axis. There are still some new Plasmas in some warehouses, if you can get one they really are worth getting.

I think all of the tecnhnologies have something to offer. I think reading about the pluses and minuses of all of them is the way to make an informed decision. I think I would like to get the best technology as well, these are some of the ways to find the TV's and the choices that we are going to be happiest with in the long run.

I think we're rapidly getting to the point where updated systems and sets are being pushed out because consumers enjoy regurgitating electronics.  I don't see any major advantage for replacing any 5 or 10 year old HDTV set with something that was put out in the last year unless the set has died on you.  I think Smart TV's are very crippled compared to a TV with something like an Amazon Fire Stick that you can load the same apps on and so much more like Kodi.

It isn't about consumers enjoying what you call "regurgitated electronics" at all. It is more about what a company can actually get people to buy. It is profit driven. As for the capabilities of smart TV's, they are only limited if you don't do your research and buy a TV with a more limited feature set.

OLED is probably the most mesmerizing thing I have ever laid eyes on.

Plasma TVs are still made by a handful of smaller manufacturers. They are more difficult to find since the larger manufacturers dropped them but they are still out there.
