Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard was placed on injured reserve Sunday, the Red Wings announced. Goalie Tom McCollum was recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

Howard left the game Saturday against the Washington Capitals on a stretcher after sustaining a groin injury. After leaving a puck behind his own net, Howard attempted to stretch across the crease to stop a stuff-in move by Troy Brouwer, and remained on the ice after the goal was scored.

This looked pretty bad on the ice. I was watching the game on Gamecenter and it looked like be jammed his leg while stretching for the post. Theres no word yet on the results of the MRI but I will update this thread with any information as it becomes available. I wish Howard the best and hope for his speedy recovery. He is an amazing goaltender and the Wings are going to have trouble without him.
