Defenseman Marc Staal and the New York Rangers agreed to terms on a contract extension, the Rangers announced Sunday after a 5-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Terms were not disclosed, but ESPN.com reported a six-year extension with an average annual value of $5.7 million, a full no-trade clause in the first three years and a full-no movement clause.
"Marc has been one of the cornerstones of our team since he arrived in New York," Rangers general manager Glen Sather said in a statement. "His commitment and perseverance to the Rangers, and the game of hockey, has been an inspiration for everyone in the organization, and he has become a role model for young players and veterans alike. We are excited that he will continue to provide that leadership in a Rangers uniform."

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=749289 Staal is an amazing Defenseman and I would have loved to see him outside the Metropolitan division next year. As a stay at home defenseman its always tough to gauge how well they are playing based on their statistics alone so unless you have watched him this year you may not know how well hes played. He is one of the cornerstones of the Rangers team.
